カエルの着ぐるみがぴょんぴょんと飛び跳ねるこの蛙飛び行事は、昔、金峯山寺の僧侶が不心得者をカエルの姿に変えた後、蔵王権現の前で人間に戻したという伝説が元になっています。太鼓台に乗ったカエルが街を練り歩く姿は、なんとも奇妙な光景といえるでしょう。
